Obituary for Leona M. Smith

Leona M. Smith, 87, of Oglesby died at 4:30 p.m. on July 14, 2019 in Peru, IL.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19th, at the Shields Funeral Chapel in Oglesby, IL.

A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church in Oglesby at 11:30 a.m. following the visitation. The very Rev. Gary Blake will officiate. Burial will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery in LaSalle, IL.

Leona was born March 14, 1932, in LaSalle to William and Anna (Kmitta) Schlosser. She married William K. Smith on July 17, 1954, at St. Joseph's Church in Peru. William died on August 23, 2011.

Leona was a dedicated homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Holy Family Church and the Holy Family Mother's club. She was an excellent cook, baker and loved dogs and gardening. She devoted her entire life to her family.

She is survived by 3 sons; William (Pam) Smith, Jr of Winter Park, CO., Daniel (Yvette) Smith of Carpentersville, IL. and Jon (Christine) Smith of Tabernash, CO., 2 daughters; Susan (Mike) Jereb of Peru and Julie (Tom) Culloton of Chicago, IL., 17 grandchildren; Charissa, Jonathon, Jordan, Anna, Danielle, Nathan, Owen, Ryan, Liam, Shalyn, Alexander, William, Hayden, Abigail, Lily, Samantha and Alex and 5 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Laurie (February 16, 1960), a son Timothy (April 22, 1960), a grandson Patrick Smith (November 14, 2004), and a brother and sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
