Obituary for Mary C. Mozina

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary C. Mozina announces her passing December 7, 2018 at the age of 97 in the home of her daughter in Carlsbad, CA.

A visitation and funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, Oglesby in the spring of 2019. Burial will be in St. Hyacinth’s Cemetery, LaSalle.
Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby is in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born July 16, 1921 in Oglesby to Andrew and Stella (Rafalski) Vasicak. She married Victor Mozina. He died in 2010.

Mary taught kindergarten in the Oglesby Public Schools for 20 years. She was an active member of Holy Family Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, Daughters of Isabella, Junior Women’s Club, Holy Family Mother’s Club, Sisters Support Group and was a Red Cross Volunteer Chairman.

She attended Sacred Heart School, L-P Township High School and LPO Junior College where she attained her teaching certificate. Mary loved to travel, making numerous trips to European destinations to visit distant family and she was fond of cruise vacations with immediate family.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Mary Ellen (Mozina) O’Connor and her husband Reed Popovich of Carlsbad, CA and son-in-law Terry Piletic of Oglesby She will be fondly remembered by brother-inlaws Ray Cregier of Texas and Len Mozina of Oglesby, cousins Hank and Joyce Prosinski of Peru and by nieces and nephews: Rick Truskoski, Ann Riva, Michael Prosinski, Amy (Prosinski) Golightly, Sandy (Mozina) Marini, Suzie (Mozina) Hancock, Steve Mozina, Kevin Creiger and her “poopsies” Bridget Suarez and Erica Burgess.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Jane Piletic in 2010 and brothers Andrew and John.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Family Church 311 N. Woodland Ave. Oglesby, IL 61348 for stained glass renovation or the donor’s choice.
